Active Older Adults

Programs for Active Older Adults

As we age, it is increasingly important to stay active and exercise regularly. At the Y, older adults can take advantage of exercise programs designed especially for them and benefit from social events.

The YMCA is proud to find ways to provide opportunities for our senior adult members. More than just a gym membership, we are finding ways to specialize senior classes, health education, and social programs that have been shown to help older adults maintain good health, reduce healthcare costs, and lead an active, independent lifestyle.

EnhanceFitness: Need to improve balance? Want to get stronger? Then EnhanceFitness is for you. This program helps improve balance and strength to help older adults live more actively and functionally. It’s perfect for groups living with arthritis or at risk for falling. The participants stay together for the entire 16 weeks, so while it is a group exercise class that meets three times a week for one hour, it becomes a community. Preregistration is required.

Fall classes: September 4th - December 3rd

They meet at the Flowood Branch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11:00 am or 1:30 pm

Matter of Balance: Matter of Balance is a discussion-based class with light exercise that helps reduce the fear of falling & increases activity levels. The class meets once a week for eight weeks for one & a half hours. The next 8-week course will start February 7 at 5:15 pm. Enrollments will close on February 28, 2024.

For more information on our Active Older Adult Programs: please contact Crystal Pierce, the Group Exercise Coordinator at HealthyLifestyles@MetroYMCAMS.org or 601-326-0542.

The program fee is $120/$30 per month until December 31, 2024. For more information, call Chris at 601.664.1955 or email healthintervention@metroymcams.org.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 1:15 - 2:15 pm

The program fee is $25 per month and provides a full membership for you and your support partner.
