About Us
For more than 150 years, the Metropolitan YMCAs of Mississippi have been guided by their Christian mission and values to strengthen the foundations of our community and nurture the potential of the men, women, and children who call Mississippi their home. As a leading nonprofit dedicated to meeting community needs, we engage people across the state, giving our neighbors—more than a third of them kids—the chance to learn, grow, and thrive. We at the Metropolitan YMCAs of Mississippi are proud of our history, and welcome people from every walk of life to take part in our great organization’s nearly two centuries history of fun, encouragement, and growth.
The Metropolitan YMCAs of Mississippi is dedicated to providing your children a safe space for them to enjoy life, learn about the experiences of people around them, and most importantly, have fun. Our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
Sir George Williams founded the first YMCA location in London, England on June 6th, 1844. In the 171 years since, the YMCA has helped millions of young men and women across the world learn more about their planet, engage with each other and learn about themselves, and provided adults and children with areas in which to practice sports and exercise.
